Dr Caroline Harper CBE

Chief Executive, Sightsavers

Dr Caroline Harper CBE

Dr Harper joined Sightsavers in 2005 as Chief Executive, having made the decision to move from the corporate world (where she worked in the gas industry) into the not-for-profit sector, inspired by her travels in developing countries. She also had a number of visually impaired family members so Sightsavers mission has personal resonance for her.

Sightsavers is dedicated to making eye care accessible to the most marginalised and vulnerable of communities, by strengthening the local health systems. It is a leading player in the fight against neglected tropical diseases. The organisation also works with disabled people’s organisations to secure the rights of people with disabilities and promote inclusive development.

Dr Harper has a PhD in energy studies from the University of Cambridge and was awarded an OBE for services to the gas industry in 2000. She received an Honorary Doctorate (in Science) from the University of Bristol in 2013 and a CBE for services to visually impaired people in 2015.
